If your patient has been involved in an accident, they may be entitled to compensation and hence, be able to seek appropriate medical treatment as required and more frequently, without apprehension of being accountable for medical costs.

Please refer your patients to West Legal & Associates where we can confidently guide your patients through the complexities of the legislative environment.

Background

September 2015 brought on a raft of governmental changes that impacted how medical and allied health practitioners interacted with injury claimants, subject to the workers compensation and motor vehicle accident schemes.

Since 1 September 2015,

  • WorkCover NSW was abolished and its role assumed by the Insurance and Care NSW (iCare);
  • A new NSW insurance regulator had been created which is called the State Insurance Regulatory Authority, also known as SIRA; and
  • SafeWork NSW was created as an independent workplace safety regulator.

The separation of these insurance functions was recommended in various inquiries into WorkCover to address any conflict of interest between the insurance regulatory and insurance service delivery functions.

So remember, you need to refer to iCare, as WorkCover doesn’t exist anymore.
